Pre-Fall. You may be wondering “what is that”? It is perhaps an unfamiliar term to many outside of fashions inner circles, but one that is fast gaining popularity and credibility amongst the big labels and brands, and is seemingly here to stay.

Pre-Fall is the term used for the collections dropped by many big fashion houses and brands typically in May/June, which are meant to bridge the gap between summer and autumn, and also feed the habits of serious fashion junkies. These drops, a relatively new concept originating in the U.S., comprise clothes that still have a summery look and feel but are for cooler climes. So, in essence, Pre-Fall collections are the perfect British summer wear.

Pre-Fall’s key lies in layering, and is also intended as an inspiration point for the in-between season period giving consumers a taste of what to expect from the main AW collections. A good tip to keep in mind for pulling off the Pre-Fall look is to build around darker hues and add a splash of colour here and there.

With hopefully two months of British “summer” left, here at The Upcoming we took a look at super cool web retailer The Corner to bring you our “how-to” guide to dressing in a layered Pre-Fall style. A cheat sheet, if you like, as the added bonus is that The Corner is currently having a fabulous on-going SS sale featuring cult designers such as Rick Owens and Damir Doma, meaning that you can shop this look guilt free – almost.
