Jezebel, the next Kosher-chic restaurant in Soho

Jezebel, the next Kosher-chic restaurant in Soho | Restaurant review

Let’s play a little word association game. Think about the word Kosher. Are you thinking about matzo ball soup or possibly a little Jewish delicatessen on your block? If so, that’s not wrong. I’m sure you’re definitely not thinking of the word chic though. But now that I’ve brought that word up, what are you thinking about? I’m guessing the words “style”, “class”, “high-end” or “modern” come to mind. Now try and think about those words combined: Kosher-chic, hard to imagine? Well if that term was put into a dictionary, the hot new restaurant Jezebel would be pictured right next to it. Jezebel is the new, one-of-a-kind Kosher-chic restaurant residing in SoHo, New York.

From the moment guests come through the door, they are dazzled not only by the unique modern art which features classic pieces replaced by famous faces (such as the faux Last Supper featuring the Jewish stars of Hollywood), but also by the sing-song greeting of the restaurant staff, excited to welcome each and every member into their enticing new world of “Kosher-chic”. On the entrance level, guests are invited to enjoy themselves in Jezebel’s seductive lounge, where there are black leather banquets lined against the walls and cocktail waitresses with welcoming smiles and fitting dresses waiting to serve and make their guests feel at home. While their signature drinks such as The Brazilian Bikini – Jezbel’s own twist on a mojito, and the popular vodka spiced Kosha Nostra are optional, they are highly recommended. Once guests have completed their experience in the lounge, they are escorted up the red-carpet steps by a gregarious hostess to the fine dining room on the upper level.

The dining room is nothing short of classy. The one-of-a-kind crystal shofar chandelier is enough to make guests stop in awe before getting to their table, along with the many other pieces of art that surround the walls. The menu features American cuisine with its own Kosher twist, with appetizers like the Jewish-Italian wedding soup which includes chicken meatballs or the Almost Classic Beef Tartar that’s paired with purple potato chips that keep your taste buds wanting more. As for the main courses on the menu, it’s almost impossible to choose between the mouth-watering lamb burger and the delectable boneless rib-eye. The chef makes no mistake with sides like duck fat potatoes that satisfy your palate, or garden vegetable ratatouille that goes perfectly with almost every dish. And right when you think you’re finished, your waiter kindly brings you a dessert menu which is impossible to resist, with choices like the peanut butter bar with hints of chocolate that make you forget the lack of dairy. The warm olive oil cake similarly melts in your mouth.

Jezebel is certainly a representative of the Jezebel played by Bette Davis in her movie classic – it stands out amongst the rest. Whilst the restaurant owners Henry Stimler and Menachem Senderowicz work hard to keep it 100% Kosher with 24-hour rabbinical supervision, they work even harder to ensure its atmosphere whisks you away from the outdated Kosher stereotype and into a world of classic taste and an absolutely appealing experience.
