Mrs Herskin: the brand with no face

Mrs Herskin: the brand with no face

Mrs Herskin makes leather accessories, jewellery and a small range of clothing, as well as taking on special one-off orders from clients. The brand is based in Budapest where the duo design team Larisza Pasztircsak (who designs the accessories) and Linda Gergely (who is the brand’s graphic designer) are based.

Mrs Herskin is behind the Daphne D’ark collection which launched in 2008 and started off as a school project. A way to express emotions and feelings, this soon turned into much more than expected. Screen Shot 2013-01-07 at 17.36.05

The inspiration for the collection came from “ourselves, our experiences and our everyday struggle with our femininity,” says Larisza. However, she promises that they tried to approach it with a hint of humour. When looking at pieces from the collection, it’s clear to see that it would be difficult to move whilst wearing, however, this was intentional: “The arms are bound and the trousers don’t allow a step.” It all symbolises her defenseless body whilst coming across as being innocent. Screen Shot 2013-01-07 at 17.36.34

There is something very Alexander McQueen about the collection. Very couture and very “gaga” but there is something that makes you smile when you see the images. The bright colours used contradict the fact that she is trapped and unable to move. Screen Shot 2013-01-07 at 17.36.23

We asked Larisza about the Mrs Herskin woman: “Nobody knows where she comes from; she’s faceless and shapeless, but she is attracted to the untouchable,” and as a designer “she is looking for the imperfections in things that appear perfect”. Her work is undesirable, not something that you would set your heart on owning, but there is also something about her designs that makes you want to wear them and never take them off.

Mrs Herskin has been internationally recognised after winning the award for Best Brand Identity at the LOOKK.COM 1Hundred Designers Competition. Their success has allowed them to set up an online store, where accessories can be purchased, as well as their new handbags.
