Simple but stunning French design at Oelwein

In the current climate we try to celebrate all things British. Sometimes it’s ok to stray further afield to find a great piece of design. DOT DOT DOT tote

Oelwein was launched by Séverine Monsonégo, a Parisian art director. The label tries to use sustainable processes in its production. For example, this DOT DOT DOT tote bag is made from 100% organic cotton and this ROBYN tea towel was printed using eco-friendly ink. The current collection features a range of tea towels, prints, cards, trays, tote bags and notebooks. Each day Oelwein comes up with new creations. Its poetic and strong design brings to the collection a unique signature. ROBYN tea towel

It isn’t necessarily one single item you notice in the range. The prints really make the collection what it is. The colours are bold and the images are simple but effective. Triangles tray

There is definitely a nature theme running throughout. Is this what inspires Séverine? “My inspiration comes from so many different things. A strange object, nature, colour palette, a place with a special atmosphere. I read a lot. I love photography, good books, go see an exhibition and love to travel.” She also confesses that she is addicted to Pinterest, which is a tool designers will probably start to use more and more.  Ohlala print

A print can be so simple but can be a focal point in a room. This Ohlala print is so cute and would look great in any room. You have to admit that most tea trays can have designs that aren’t so eye-catching. Oelwein’s are fantastic and really funky. The triangles tray, or Plateau Triangles if you want to give it the French pronunciation, is made from Scandinavian birch veneer and is dishwasher proof.

If you feel your home needs brightening up head to the website ASAP! Your home won’t be dull this season with a piece of Oelwein in it.
