We’ve got a burning love for Pigeon and Weasel

We’ve got a burning love for Pigeon and Weasel

What happens when you put beer and candles together? The triple-scented soy wax candle from Sydney-based brand Pigeon and Weasel, obviously. No, someone hasn’t invented a beer-scented candle (how disgusting would that be?), but these aren’t your run-of-the-mill scents either.

The idea came when two flat mates, schoolteacher Prue Jevtic (Weasel) and graphic designer Clay Anderson (Pigeon), stumbled upon an online tutorial of how to cut glass. The duo made a link between Prue’s candle home-making kit and the beer bottles lying around their flat, and saw an opportunity to create something recyclable and unique. Completely hand-made from the duo by scratch, the result is the deliciously scented, eco-friendly Pigeon and Weasel candle.

The brand sources their bottles from a local bar, who donate their empty bottles to then get cleaned, scored, cut and polished, ready for the wax to be poured. The candle itself is made from soy wax and paraffin-free wicks, meaning the candles are non-toxic and clean-burning. In other words, they contain no petrol-carbon soot found in paraffin candles, which can blacken walls, ceilings and furnishings, as well as adding toxic carcinogens into the air. Soy candles burn for longer too!

Steering clear of your stereotypical girly fragrances, the candles come in a tantalising range of scents including Black Lavender, Coconut Lime, Chai Latte, Buddha’s Tears, Classic Vanilla, Citrus Sunset, Sugar & Spice, Fresh Linen and, their best-seller, Red Frogs (smells like sweets, yum!). The coloured bottles they are housed in, complete with minimalistic monochrome labels, oozes cool, making them the perfect accompaniment for your mantle.

Pigeon and Weasel candles make for an ideal gift for women and men alike, or for perking up your home décor. Be warned though, it will make all other candles look, quite frankly, dull!
