Jessica Minh Anh shouts “recession who??”

Jessica Minh Anh shouts “recession who??”

We are always looking for the rainbows within the storm. In what has been called the worst economic crisis since the Depression, it is easy to get caught up in the negative – the fiscal cliffs, sequesters, and any other phrase that sends us all running for cover. But there are still things to get excited about and there are individuals making a way despite of the huge obstacles facing our most recent adults.

One such person is Jessica Minh Anh, who graduated in 2009 in midst of the global recession storm. She founded J Model Management, a fashion event company that seeks to provide innovative and creative fashion events for their clients. In just four short years, Jessica is already being considered the most unique fashion event organisers in the world.

The company specialises in creating fashion showcases in some of the most extraordinary international venues, making history as they go along. Some of their iconic shows include the first ever fashion show on England’s London Tower Bridge, the floating catwalk on the River Seine in Paris, and the world’s highest fashion show on PETRONAS Twin Towers’ Skybridge. We would have had to sit out for that one, as some of us here are a little afraid of heights. Thank goodness for live stream and YouTube.

What we love about Jessica, though, isn’t just her innovativeness, creativity and business-savvy mind, but her keen observation of the often limited opportunities in fashion, and her willingness to give back to those with a desire and passion like her own. In addition to J Model Management, Jessica has also created an internship programme and workshop series in which she educates and shares with the youth her business skills and experiences in the world of fashion. We here always value those who seek to give back, those who haven’t lost the ability to relate to the struggles of many of the youth coming into adulthood during such a questionable economic time.

What is most gratifying about Jessica’s story is the overwhelming amount of approval and positive feedback from those who have worked with her company and covered her events. Jessica has worked with the likes of Shiatzy Chen and Hugo Boss, and received amazing coverage and feedback from the likes of BBC, Marie Claire, CNN, and Style TV. British fashion leader Paul Costello says of Jessica: “I am definitely amazed by Jessica’s creativity and determination to break international boundaries at spectacular destinations. Her bold and beautiful l shows redefined the modern standard”.

When speaking of her company philosophy, Jessica says, “We at J Model management always want to pull out the best show, to inspire the world, and to make a difference.” This certainly seems true, as for her iconic London Tower Bridge show, not only were the usual fashion honchos there to enjoy the moment, but ambassadors from 50 different countries were invited as well.

Delivering an amazing show has become a specialty of J Model Management, with an average of four major shows a year, which was seen as an impossibility for many start-up event organisers. This has proven to be an advantage, as well as a challenge for the company: “One of J Model Management’s competitive advantages is our speed of productions.  I organise four shows per year in four countries and that means we have maximum of three months to prepare for each one…[but] time constraint has always been our biggest challenge as we have to move things very quickly to ensure we make it on time…”

Still, in spite of the challenges, Jessica has made magic happen, and is looking forward to continuing on in the niche path she’s created for herself.  Of the future, Jessica says, “I will continue looking for the most extraordinary venues worldwide to host my iconic showcases. I am looking at Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Istanbul, Singapore and New York. Finding new ways to express fashion is what I live for.”

Jessica has definitely proved that success is a frame of mind, and can be found floating on a river or towering over the sky, if you just look close enough.
