Sister Jane pre-fall 2013: Moon Woman Rising

Sister Jane pre-fall 2013: Moon Woman Rising

Located on Portobello Road in a unique chapel-turned-witches’-den, lies the headquarters and flagship store of the creative womenswear brand, Sister Jane.

Adorned in candles and potion bottles, the setting immediately transports you into a stellar universe.  The chandelier sculpture reading “yes” in crystals at the focal point of the store promotes positivity and reflects rainbows throughout the space.  By far, one of the most fascinating elements of the store is its lighting. Solar eclipse lamps representing the planets ornament the perimeter of the space, while light bulbs atop the clothing racks represent stars and create constellations in the store’s merchandising.  Having once been a chapel, the store has a unique way of emphasising our spiritual connection with the stars.  According to Moby and the theory of quantum mechanics, we’re made up of the stuff.  While Sister Jane is strongly rooted in Spanish elegance and London eccentricity, their connection to all things cosmic dominates as a recurring theme. The mysterious connection between the moon and women throughout the ages has inspired Sister Jane’s pre-fall 2013 collection: Moon Woman Rising.

The collection of kaleidoscope prints and mythical symbology blasts us into Sister Jane’s universe of femininity and dimensional transcendence.  An obsession with crystals and their spiritual purposes is prevalent.  In structure, crystals appear perfectly balanced and are thought to carry energies capable of amplifying feelings, thoughts and vibrations.  Cosmic pearls and beading are scattered throughout the collection, awakening the spirit of our crystal core nature. A vast array of colours saturate the dresses, suits and blouses, while embellishments of Pegasus prints, Egyptian eye appliques and crystals bring a magical charm to the collection.

At first glance, the collection provokes feelings of outer space whimsy – partially due to the adorable styling choice of a pink wig and bejewelled antennae.  But whether you’re a dreamer with your head in the stars, or a realist with your feet on the ground, Sister Jane’s Moon Woman Rising collection offers versatility for a wide range of women-aliens and earthlings, alike.
