LFW – Liz Black S/S 2014 collection: Perceive/Deceive

Meshing together her signature abstract designs with a bright colour palette of varying shades of yellow, green and blue, and experimental forms, Liz Black’s Perceive/Deceive SS14 collection is both fashion-forward and entirely wearable.LFW SS14 Liz Black - KrisztianPinter - TheUpcoming-5

Largely formed of dresses, the collection shows off Liz Black’s impressive use of optical illusion and eye for colour. Close fitting mini dresses are brought to life by Black’s use of unconventional spikes criss–crossed down the front, whilst midi and maxi dresses feature colourful designs that flatter the female figure and draw attention to the power of a woman’s body.LFW SS14 Liz Black - KrisztianPinter - TheUpcoming-2

The stand-out piece of the collection was a cleverly designed T-shirt style top that used a varying size of vertical stripes to draw attention to the model’s breasts. Whilst the overall design of top was demure, Black succeeded in turning a simple T-shirt into an artistic and fun piece of clothing that creates a perception of female curves without having to reveal them. LFW SS14 Liz Black - KrisztianPinter - TheUpcoming-3

Using a variety of different materials including leather and silk, the collection was textually very interesting. This was emphasised by the very simple styling of the models, who were given a relatively bare face, bar a heavy eye-shadow and wore delicate open-toe stiletto style shoes.LFW SS14 Liz Black - KrisztianPinter - TheUpcoming-4

According to the designer herself, the SS14 collection is targeted at “the independent, fashion–forward woman”. Using strong almost architectural shapes and fun, vibrant designs, Liz Black succeeds in delivering a collection of serious worth, and one that most certainly meets the expectations of her fashion–forward woman.
