My Handmade Passion: the art of crochet

My Handmade Passion: the art of crochet

Crochet is something you often associate with an item of clothing or home décor. However, at My Handmade Passion you will probably find it on a wide variety of items.MHP pink ring

The label was created by Dobi. She has a degree in marketing and balances her time between her full-time job and My Handmade Passion. She comes from a family of crafty women; from her great grandmother who made embroidery on pillows, her grandmother who has created table cloths and doilies and her mother who has created sweaters, dresses, tops and skirts for Dobi and her sister. She has always had a passion for crocheting and when she was a little girl she was fascinated by the colours and designs that could be created. She has a great passion for jewellery and accessories, and believes that they can really change an outfit.MHP burgundy hoops

The idea of making her own jewellery dawned on Dobi about four years ago. She was browsing online and spotted a beautiful pair of crochet earrings. She was amazed by the great attention to detail and she wanted to buy them. However, her mum said she could make the same earrings herself. This led to Dobi learning more about crochet from her mum and grandmother. A year ago she decided to share her work with other girls and last January Dobi opened her Etsy shop. She now has almost 100 products on her site.MHP coral earrings

The jewellery that Dobi creates is really pretty. If you love to wear accessories with a bohemian vibe, you will love these pieces. The coral hoops are a great piece for this summer as are the emerald green floral earrings. If you prefer richer colours, these burgundy hoops are gorgeous.MHP emerald earrings

Her love for crochet clearly inspires Dobi in what she does. “When you really love something you easily get inspired to reach to something higher, to design a gorgeous pattern, to create something really special and unique for your customers, to deliver great value and to wow your customers. I get inspired all the time. I am always in the mood for creating. I get inspired by nature, by a new dress I got, by a lovely hairstyle I see, by beautiful yarn or beads I find, by a romantic movie I see, I always want to create. I feel happiest when I crochet and create beautiful items with my own hands.”

If you’ve felt nervous about wearing a crocheted piece before, maybe My Handmade Passion could be for you. The earrings aren’t in your face and they will look great over the summer, especially if you’re heading to a festival.
