Urban Decay to collaborate with Gwen Stefani for limited edition collection

MAC Cosmetics may be in the lead when it comes to celebrity collaborations – having worked with such stars as Rihanna, Lorde, and most recently, Miley Cyrus – but Urban Decay is now making up the difference big time. For their first celebrity line they are working with Gwen Stefani who, with her permanent red lipstick and platinum blonde locks, is a style icon in her own right.

This is a line 19-years in the making if we’re to believe Urban Decay founding partner Wende Zomnir, who stated she wanted to work with Stefani when Urban Decay was only just getting off the ground. “I remember hearing the song I’m Just a Girl, and she’s on the cover of some local music magazine, and I remember thinking, ‘That girl is so cool. I wish I could work with her someday.’”

Though they already worked together to launch Urban Decay’s The Ultraviolet Edge, the primer line that aims to raise millions of dollars for female empowerment organisations, this time it is the real deal. Unlike many other celebrity collaborations Stefani got in the thick of the creation process. Wende explains they worked together for about five months: “She wasn’t like, ‘Here are the shades I like; go make it happen.’ She tested every single one, She’s a make-up person.”

Though Urban Decay has been very secretive about the line, Stefani has stated that they have created products that are part of her daily routine and that she wanted to share with her fans. We can expect bright colours, from eye shadows to lipsticks. In any case, we know what is on our Christmas list this year.

Gwen Stefani for Urban Decay will launch on 22nd November 2015.
