Yauatcha City launches the Supreme Saturdays menu | Restaurant review

Opened in March this year, the sister restaurant of the acclaimed Michelin-starred Yauatcha has rapidly become a local favourite. It turns out that those residing in the City of London aren’t invading dining rooms exclusively for cursory lunches and business meetings Monday to Friday; they also indulging in long meals over the weekend.

Yauatcha City has recently launched Supreme Saturdays, a luxurious five-course menu that will keep you nailed to your chair for no less than two hours of food and drinks. Included in the offer, which comes at a contained cost, there are also two drinks and half a bottle of wine.

Our meal begins with the Steamed Dim Sum Platter as couples, families and groups of friends sit at the tables around us to enjoy the warm ambience on a rainy Saturday afternoon. These skillfully crafted dumplings contain pork and prawn (shuimai); shrimp (har gau); black pepper and wagyu beef; vegetable and truffle; pumpkin with pine nut; and wild mushroom.

After a few minutes another platter lands on the table; this time the selection of dim sum is fried – once again finely crafted. Among them, the Sesame Prawn Toast is my preference but the Venison Puff and Mushroom Spring Roll come very close; the only disappointment is the Lobster Roll, which doesn’t give off the elegant flavour you’d expect.

There are three options for main dishes: Foie Gras Diced Beef, Truffle Pork Belly Rib and Lobster Vermicelli Pot. Each one sounds delicious and we decide to try them all. Unexpectedly (although maybe not, on second thought) the pork belly is tastier, more tender and more comforting than the other options. The portions are too generous and intense after ten pieces of dim sum, but the wine and vegetables on the side offer some relief. However, if you leave some of the food on the plate, the smooth and friendly service won’t take it personally.

The highlight of the menu is the incredible selection of desserts which customers can choose from directly at the counter (they are also available for takeaway).

Of the wonderful cakes, the Raspberry Delice (raspberry, Madirofolo chocolate, lychee) and Chocolate Pebble (Alto el Sol single-origin dark chocolate, brownie, caramelised white chocolate) are our obvious choices, but the Gianduja Lemon, Passion Fruit Mango Dome and Lemon Tart look more than inviting.

The Supreme Saturday menu is game-changing for the City’s dining scene, and it’s currently one of the most convenient quality long-lunch menus in London.
