Journey’s End premiere: A chat with Sam Claflin and Saul Dibb

Saul Dibb’s British war film Journey’s End premiered at the BFI London Film Festival last night. An adaptation of the seminal play by RC Sherriff, it follows the plight of soldiers in World War I, specifically 18-year-old newbie Lieutenant Raleigh (Asa Butterfield) alongside childhood friend and hero Captain Stanhope (Sam Claflin) as they suffer four tense, claustrophobic days in the trenches in France in 1918. We were there to speak about the film with director Saul Dibb and lead actor Sam Claflin as they hit the red carpet.

The British rising star spoke of the importance of exploring the plight of soldiers at war and the sacrifice they have made for their country through British history.

Director Saul Dibb talked with us about his approach to putting the play on the big screen, how Journey’s End stands apart from other films on warfare and the intensity with which the film closes in on the soldiers’ experience.
