“War is a story that is told by men”: Lola Arias on Theatre of War

Argentinian artist Lola Arias’s debut feature film Theatre of War resists easy genre definition: part documentary, part experiment, part performance art piece, part absurdist comedy, it takes as its subject the Falklands War and the reflections of British and Argentinian veterans, 35 years on from the conflict.

After in-depth interviews with the six participants, they are then asked to re-enact their memories with one another, with the result also contrasted with archive footage of the actual event to thought-provoking and surprising effect.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Arias at the London Film Festival. She talked us through her unique approach to artistic creation and what she wanted the impact of her film to be.
