Billy Crudup to take West End by storm in one-man show Harry Clarke

Billy Crudup, the Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor known for his role in The Morning Show, is set to make his highly anticipated West End debut in the UK premiere of David Cale’s one-man play Harry Clarke. The critically acclaimed production, directed by Leigh Silverman, will open at the Ambassadors Theatre in London with previews starting on Saturday 9th March, leading up to the official opening night on Wednesday, 13th March 2024. The show is scheduled for a limited run until Saturday, 11th May 2024.

Crudup, who has previously received accolades for his portrayal of the title character in the United States, will bring to life 19 characters in an 80-minute tour-de-force performance. The play, which has been compared to The Talented Mr Ripley, follows the story of an awkward Midwestern man named Philip Brugglestein who adopts the persona of the charming and confident Londoner Harry Clarke, as he moves to New York City and insinuates himself into a wealthy family.

The production comes to the West End following sell-out runs in New York and Los Angeles, where Crudup’s performance earned him several awards including an Outer Critics Circle Award, Off-Broadway Alliance Award, Lucille Lortel Award, Drama Desk Award and an Obie Award. The actor expressed his excitement about performing in London, citing West End audiences as “some of the most discerning, intelligent and hungry audiences in the world.”

Tickets for Harry Clarke are now available for ATG+ members, with general booking opening on 22nd January at 1pm. The Londoner has been announced as the official hotel partner for the West End production.

The creative team behind the play includes scenic design by Alexander Dodge, costume design by Kaye Voyce, lighting by Alan C Edwards, sound by Bart Fasbender and original songs by David Cale. Vocal coaching is provided by Deborah Lapidus, with dialect coaching from Deborah Hecht and Jessica Berman.

For those interested in attending, access performances have been scheduled, including an audio-described performance on Wednesday 27th March and a captioned performance on Wednesday 10th April. The play is recommended for ages 14 and above.

Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, known for producing a wide range of successful theatrical works, is presenting this Vineyard Theatre and Berkeley Repertory Theatre production. The group has a history of critically acclaimed and commercially successful productions both in the UK and internationally.
