Stage Door Theatre debuts with Sondheim’s Marry Me a Little in Covent Garden

The Stage Door Theatre, located in the heart of Covent Garden at the Prince of Wales pub on Drury Lane, is set to captivate audiences with its inaugural production of Stephen Sondheim’s Marry Me a Little. The show will run from the 28th February to the 13th April 2024. Esteemed director Robert McWhir will helm the production, promising a poignant exploration of love and longing through Sondheim’s renowned melodies.

Marry Me a Little stitches together a collection of “trunk songs” – notably discarded from such famous Sondheim shows as Anyone Can WhistleFolliesCompanyA Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and A Little Night Music. The musical revue follows the intersecting lives of two single city-dwellers each spending their Saturday night immersed in wistful daydreams, unaware of their proximity to one another and the potential end to their isolation.

The creative team behind this production includes Director Robert McWhir, Musical Director Aaron Clingham, Designer David Shields and Lighting Designer Richard Lambert. McWhir, who is also the artistic director of the new Stage Door Theatre, brings a wealth of experience with Sondheim’s material, having previously produced and directed Follies and Into the Woods at the Landor Theatre in North Clapham.

While the cast for this production has yet to be announced, anticipation is already building for what is expected to be a thought-provoking and emotionally charged presentation. The Stage Door Theatre offers a unique theatrical experience with dinner tickets priced at £36 and show-only options for £18. Performances are scheduled for 7.30pm, with a matinee on the 3rd March at 3pm. The show will run for 90 minutes without an interval.
