“I wanted everyone to recognise themselves in this family”: Camille de Castlnau, Sara Giraudeau and Mehdi Nebbou on Everything Is Fine

“I wanted everyone to recognise themselves in this family”: Camille de Castlnau, Sara Giraudeau and Mehdi Nebbou on Everything Is Fine

This new eight-part drama Everything Is Fine (Tout Va Bien) set against the backdrop of Paris is a show about a young girl with a terminal illness that requires ongoing hospital stays and a desperate search by her parents for a suitable transplant donor. This unique story connects three generations of a family unravelling many layers of jealousy, love and grief. The tone is underpinned with moments of dark comedy that keep this emotive series refreshing.

Camille de Castlnau is the driving force behind the show, drawing on her own experiences to bring this story to screen and putting real heart at the centre of this series. The fantastic ensemble cast pack the narrative with their own personal journeys, immersing viewers in the dysfunctional relationships of their extended family and highlighting the fragility of those connections.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to series creator Camille de Castlnau about her approach to the script, the female presence felt in the show and also the casting process.

Sara Giraudeau and Mehdi Nebbou told us what the story is all about and what appealed to them about coming on board and working with such a visionary director. They also talk about Sara’s character’s journey as a mother, dealing with her ill daughter and the idea of escapism as a way of coping.
