The Bikeriders: On the red carpet with Austin Butler, Toby Wallace and Jeff Nichols at the London premiere

Imminently hitting cinemas is the much-anticipated The Bikeriders, delving into the gritty, oil and sweat-soaked world of a midwestern motorcycle club named the Vandals. Directed and written by Jeff Nichols (Mud), the film takes its inspiration from Danny Lyon’s 1960s photography book and explores the Vandals journey from a community gathering for local outsiders to a more ominous gang, posing a threat to the very ethos they once stood for. Most importantly, the feature flips the script, giving a female perspective on cycles of violence and toxic masculinity.

The Upcoming had the chance to hit the blue carpet, with its very own motorcycles as a backdrop, and rub shoulders with the movie’s stars, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy as well as Toby Wallace and Nichols. Butler shared his experience working on The Bikeriders, highlighting his respect for his co-star, their immediate bond, the mutual love for their craft and the enjoyable time they had working together.

Toby Wallace chatted about his role as The Kid, his preparation for the film and the dynamics with co-stars Hardy and Comer. He reflected on masculinity themes and hinted at upcoming diverse roles.

Nichols then shared the process of adapting Danny Lyon’s 1960s book, emphasising the allure of Lyon’s photos and interviews. He praised his stellar cast, including Hardy and Butler and highlighted Comer’s insightful portrayal.
