Moana 2 will premiere exclusively in UK cinemas in November, Disney announces at fan event

Disney Animation Studios has announced that Moana 2, the sequel to its popular animated musical, will premiere exclusively in UK cinemas on 29th November 2024. The film’s release was highlighted during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where attendees were treated to a live performance by Auli‘i Cravalho, the voice of Moana. Accompanied by dancers and drummers from Nonosina Polynesia, Cravalho performed We’re Back, a new song from the film’s soundtrack, composed by Grammy-winning duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear.

The event also featured an appearance by Dwayne Johnson, who lends his voice to the character Maui. Johnson introduced a new trailer and poster for the film, both of which are now publicly available. Moana 2 is directed by David Derrick Jr, Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, with Christina Chen and Yvett Merino serving as producers.

Set three years after the original, Moana 2 continues the adventures of Moana and Maui as they navigate uncharted waters after Moana is summoned by her ancestral wayfinders. The film promises an array of new songs by Barlow and Bear, alongside contributions from Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina, enhancing the rich musical heritage of the original movie.
