Adam Handling appoints Andrew Tuck as senior sous chef at The Tartan Fox in Newquay

Adam Handling MBE has appointed Andrew Tuck as the Senior Sous Chef at his latest venture, The Tartan Fox, located in Newquay, Cornwall. The pub, which opened last month, marks another addition to Handling’s portfolio of restaurants emphasising sustainability and local sourcing.

Andrew Tuck, known for his expertise in fire cooking and sustainable practices, joins the team after a notable stint in the culinary scene, including appearances on the Great British Menu. Originally from Cornwall, the chef has developed his cooking style by focusing on local ingredients and traditional cooking methods, such as fire and smoking. His career highlights include leading St. Kew Inn into the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list and featuring in Rick Stein’s Cornwall Series. Tuck expressed his enthusiasm about joining Handling’s team, stating, “I’ve always wanted to be part of the best and have admired Adam and his work for many years so, after being on Great British Menu, I was given the push I needed to approach Chef Adam and see how I could work with his amazing group. I wanted to be part of something special here in Cornwall, and Newquay really has everything you need.”

The Tartan Fox is housed in a refurbished 17th-century building sitting on 30 acres of land, designed to reflect its historical heritage with natural materials and a cosy, rustic ambiance. Situated near Handling’s other Cornish establishment, Ugly Butterfly, The Tartan Fox aims to offer a special dining experience focusing on zero-waste and the use of high-quality local produce.

Adam Handling’s restaurant group is known for its commitment to sustainability and British cuisine, with several acclaimed venues across the UK, including Frog by Adam Handling in London and The Loch & The Tyne in Old Windsor. Handling has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the culinary world, including being named Restaurateur of the Year at the British GQ Food and Drink Awards 2020 and earning his first Michelin star in 2022.
