Mammy Pancake brings Hong Kong bubble waffles to London

Hong Kong street food brand Mammy Pancake is opening its first UK branch on Portobello Road in Notting Hill, with the official launch scheduled for Friday 18th July. The company, known for its bubble waffles, is expanding outside Asia for the first time. To mark the occasion, the new venue will offer 100 complimentary waffles to customers who follow the brand on Instagram and present proof in-store on the opening day.

Mammy Pancake was founded in Hong Kong in 2009 and has since gained recognition for its take on the traditional egg waffle, a popular street snack in the city. Their signature bubble waffles are characterised by a crispy exterior and chewy texture, and are often served with a variety of toppings and fillings. While the bubble waffle has become popular in various cities worldwide, Mammy Pancake is regarded as one of the original purveyors of the snack in Hong Kong. The brand has received six consecutive Michelin Street Food recommendations – a distinction awarded to street food vendors demonstrating quality and consistency. The London outlet will feature a menu that includes some of their best-known items, such as the Mammy Chocolate and the Earl Grey. There will also be seasonal specials and drinks like Hong Kong Style Milk Tea.

The decision to open in London reflects the city’s diverse food scene and growing interest in Asian street food. Portobello Road, located in the heart of Notting Hill, is known for its market and eclectic mix of shops and eateries, making it a strategic choice for Mammy Pancake’s UK debut. The arrival comes amid a wider trend of international street food brands establishing a presence in the UK.
