Tamarind of Mayfair launches designer terrace in time for London heatwave

As London prepares for temperatures to exceed 30°C by Saturday, Tamarind of Mayfair has launched a new 50-cover outdoor terrace, offering diners a fresh alfresco option in the heart of the city. The terrace, which opened this week, is situated above Queen Street, Shepherd Market and Curzon Street, providing a vantage point that overlooks the bustling Mayfair neighbourhood.

The Tamarind Terrace is the first solo project by designer Stephanie Barba Mendoza. Mendoza, previously a senior team member at Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS), brings a wealth of experience to the role, having contributed to the redesign of venues such as Annabel’s in Berkeley Square, Scarfes Bar, Les Jardin du Presbourg, The Beekman New York and The Ivy West Street.

The chef’s involvement in the project is seen as a significant milestone in her career. While at MBDS, she worked on high-profile projects in London and abroad, and her move to lead the Tamarind Terrace marks her first independent venture. The restaurant’s management highlighted Mendoza’s track record in hospitality design, noting her previous contributions to some of the capital’s most recognisable venues.

In addition to the new setting, Tamarind of Mayfair has introduced a dedicated terrace menu. It features a selection of small plates, salads, grills and desserts, with a new cocktail list curated by Carole Brown in collaboration with Boatyard Distillery. The restaurant continues to offer its à la carte and tasting menus for both lunch and dinner service on the terrace. The newly opened space aims to provide a “tranquil and effervescent escape from the hustle and bustle of the Mayfair streets below,” according to the restaurant’s management. It has been designed to accommodate up to 50 guests, with a focus on creating an inviting environment for outdoor dining during the summer months.
