Wine and Meat Tasting Nights back at Turner & George for summer

London-based butcher shop Turner & George has launched a new series of wine and meat tasting evenings at its EC1 location. The events, held on Wednesday nights from 7.30 to 9pm, aim to explore the relationship between different cuts of meat and their ideal wine pairings. Sessions are scheduled to run throughout the summer, with upcoming events on 16^th July and 13^th August and tickets priced at £50 per person via the company’s website.

Each event will focus on a specific meat category. The session on 16^th July, titled The Pit & The Pour, will feature low and slow barbecued meats matched with a selection of wines. The following event, Pork & Cork on 13^th August, will spotlight various pork cuts and corresponding wine pairings. According to organisers, the evenings are designed to be informal and interactive, allowing guests to sample grilled meats, taste wines and engage in discussion with fellow attendees.

The tastings will be led by Victoria Sharples, an International Wine Challenge judge and wine consultant to several restaurants, including the well-known St John. Sharples will guide guests through the wine selections and provide commentary on the pairings. “Guests can expect unusual yet delicious wine matches to Turner & George’s barbecued goods,” she said, adding that she will be sharing her knowledge throughout the evening.

Turner & George, which specialises in high-quality butchery, will prepare the meat in-house, grilling and serving samples during the sessions. The events mark a new direction for the business, combining its core expertise in meat with wine education in a social setting. The format caters to both enthusiasts and newcomers interested in deepening their understanding of ingredients and flavour combinations – a broader trend currently thriving in London’s food scene blending culinary education with experiential dining.
