Oriole bar launches summer jazz manouche series with live performances and cocktails every Thursday

Oriole in Smithfield will host a series of live jazz events every Thursday evening at 8pm this summer, beginning on 17th July and running through to the end of August. The event series, titled Hot Club, will feature performances of jazz manouche, a genre pioneered in 1930s France, with the aim of offering guests a lively musical experience paired with food and cocktails in the basement venue.
Jazz manouche, also known as gypsy jazz, was developed by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli of the Quintette du Hot Club de France. The style is characterised by its fast-paced guitar work, rhythmic swing and percussive energy. Oriole has previously hosted a variety of live music events and is part of the Speakeasy Entertainment group, which also operates other music-focused venues in London. The Hot Club series continues a tradition of blending live music with its curated food and drink offerings.
The bar, which specialises in globally inspired drinks and cuisine, will offer its regular dinner menu during the performances, focusing on fusion dishes influenced by Latin American culinary traditions. Guests can also opt to enjoy the music with cocktails alone.
A spokesperson for the venue described the event as a way to enhance the summer experience for patrons: “Combining the energetic percussion and fast-fingered guitars of jazz manouche with the team’s signature cold serves, the Hot Club promises invigorating summer evenings from the comfort of Oriole’s cool basement restaurant and bar.”
