KOL celebrates fifth anniversary with global chefs reimagining the Mexican taco in London

Marylebone’s Michelin-starred restaurant KOL will mark its fifth anniversary this month with a special one-night-only event. Chef Santiago Lastra will host four internationally acclaimed colleagues to reinterpret the traditional taco, each presenting a unique version that reflects their individual culinary style. The occasion, held at KOL’s main dining room, aims to celebrate the restaurant’s half-decade milestone by showcasing global perspectives on Mexican cuisine.

The participating chefs include Thomas Frebel of Noma in Copenhagen, Rodolfo Guzmán of Boragó in Santiago, Chile (currently ranked 23rd on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list), Nicolai Nørregaard of Kadeau in Copenhagen (which holds two Michelin stars and a Michelin Green Star) and Ana Roš of Hiša Franko in Slovenia (named World’s Best Female Chef by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, with a restaurant that holds three Michelin stars and a Green Star). Each will present their own interpretation of a taco at one of five culinary stations set up in the transformed dining space.

Lastra will also contribute a taco that he says embodies “five years of KOL”, combining Latin American culinary traditions with British-sourced ingredients. “KOL represents a connection to the diversity, ancient history and varied tapestry of Mexican food culture, crafted with British produce,” the chef said. “The experience has continually evolved over the past five years, due to the exciting discoveries made along the way through our extensive research. The ever-changing nature of KOL is a testament to the abundance of British produce and its versatility. I am especially pleased to celebrate this anniversary with four like-minded friends, who have been a great support and constant inspiration throughout our time together.”

The evening will run in two sittings, from 6-8pm and 8-10pm. Following the main event, guests will be invited to continue celebrations in the restaurant’s Mezcaleria, where there will be a selection of tequilas, mezcals, signature cocktails and antojitos (Mexican street food snacks). Tickets are priced at £110 per person, including a welcome drink and five dishes, and will be available exclusively through KOL’s newsletter from 5th October at 4pm.
