London restaurants gearing up for Sunday Roast season

As the traditional roast season reaches its peak, several London restaurants are offering new takes on the classic British Sunday feast. From Marylebone to Covent Garden, venues including Fire & Wine by Boxcar, Kitty Hawk and The Italian Greyhound are introducing updated menus that reinterpret the tradition with international influences and contemporary presentation.

In Marylebone, Fire & Wine has launched its new Sunday Feasts, aiming to reimagine the conventional roast experience. The recently opened neighbourhood restaurant features a menu that includes Grilled Corn-fed Chicken with Sauce Diable and Dry-aged Picanha Carved to Share, served with sauce espagnole. These mains are accompanied by sides such as pecorino-topped Agria potatoes, thyme and honey-glazed parsnips, and seasonal vegetables. Notably, the restaurant replaces the traditional Yorkshire pudding with what it calls Fire Bread – a smoky, grilled alternative intended for sauce-dipping. For dessert, diners can choose between a plant-based Tarte Tatin with tonka bean Chantilly or a lighter option of yoghurt with grilled pineapple and olive oil.

Meanwhile, Kitty Hawk Restaurant & Rooftop Bar, located atop the Page 8 Hotel near Trafalgar Square, is offering Sunday roasts in a rooftop setting with views across central London. The venue’s menu features Slow-cooked Longhorn Beef, Tamworth Pork Belly or a Half Chicken, each served with duck fat roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, seasonal vegetables and gravy. The offering is paired with free-flowing red wine, which the restaurant describes as part of “the ultimate Sunday roast experience”.

Also in Marylebone, The Italian Greyhound is presenting an Italian-inspired variation on the British roast. In Seymour Place, the restaurant’s Sunday menu includes Half Chicken with Sage and Lemon, Porchetta with Apple and Rosemary and Dry-aged Sirloin with Horseradish Cream. These dishes are served with crispy potatoes, cauliflower al forno, seasonal vegetables and a porcini Yorkshire pudding. The restaurant describes the menu as “a refined yet comforting feast” that blends classic British elements with Italian culinary influences.

These offerings reflect a broader trend of London restaurants adapting traditional British fare to suit diverse tastes and dining preferences, particularly during the colder months when Sunday roasts remain a popular choice for weekend dining.
