Lyon’s Le Kitchen brings Beaujolais celebration and seasonal menu to The Buxton

Lyon-based restaurant Le Kitchen will make its London debut with a one-night residency at The Buxton, located at the top of Brick Lane in East London, on Thursday 20th November. Featuring a four-course seasonal menu created in collaboration between the two establishments, the event marks the annual arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau, a French tradition celebrated in its home country with communal meals and wine tastings to mark the release of the first wine of the year from France’s Beaujolais region.

The Buxton, which opened in 2019 as part of The Culpeper Family Hospitality Group, occupies a restored former pub, whose focus on seasonal, locally sourced produce aligns with Le Kitchen’s ethos, making the collaboration a natural fit. Founded by Ferrandi Paris alumni Connie Zagora and Laurent Ozan, Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded restaurant Le Kitchen is located in Lyon’s student quarter, and takes an ingredient-led, sustainable approach to bistronomic dining. For the London event, head chef Zagora will prepare a menu that draws on produce from The Culpeper Family’s urban farm in Deptford, South London.

The evening will include dishes such as Smoked Duck Heart with Beetroot and Star Anise Purée, Oeuf en Meurette (a traditional Lyonnaise dish of poached egg in red wine sauce) and Chou Farçi with Homemade Kimchi and Pickled Red Cabbage, concluding with a signature chocolate dessert accompanied by ice cream freshly churned in-house. Each course will be paired with low-intervention wines, including selections from Sylvère Trichard, a Beaujolais winemaker whose bottles were the first to appear on Le Kitchen’s wine list in 2013. Following the meal, guests are invited to continue with a drinks reception in The Buxton’s wine bar, where wines will be served from magnums and available by the glass.

“The evening will be a true celebration of Lyonnaise cuisine, seasonal produce and the early release of Beaujolais,” organisers say. Their aim is to create a convivial atmosphere that mirrors the communal spirit of Beaujolais Nouveau celebrations in France.

Tickets for the dinner are priced at £60 per person, with the event beginning at 6.30pm and continuing into the night. Guests can book in advance or drop in for a glass of wine.
