Written and directed by Mark Jenkins, Rose of Nevada is a sci-fi drama film shot around Cornwall, which is also Jenkins’ hometown. When a fishing trawler that mysteriously vanished at sea 30 years ago suddenly reappears in the harbour of a small village, the superstitious townsfolk believe it to be a sign that their luck might change. The ghostly presence soon draws two men to join the crew and take it out on a successful voyage into open waters and home, which then sees the feature dive into a genre where time-travel and mystery helm the rest of the narrative.

Callum Turner and George Mackay lead the cast as the two main crew, Liam and Nic,k whilst Jenkins also composes the haunting film score. The movie is entirely shot on a 16mm wind-up Bolex camera, to which Jenkins adds the dialogue and music post-production, giving it both a unique and authentic composition.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Jenkins at the London Film Festival premiere about why he wanted to make this feature, the casting process and some of the challenges of filming using the equipment he used.

We spoke to Mackay about coming on board to be part of the storytelling, working to build that on-screen relationship with his co-star Turner and the magic of filming in Cornwall.

We spoke to the film producer Denzil Monk about his collaboration with Jenkins and some of the challenges of the production.

Mary Woodvine chatted to us about working on another project with Jenkins, the narrative about time-travel and the community they filmed in.

Cast member Edward Rowe spoke to us about working previously with Jenkins and what he liked about the script, as well as working with such a brilliant fellow cast.
