House of George brings boutique hospitality and fine dining to Broadway with historic Cotswolds opening

House of George, a new boutique hotel and fine-dining restaurant, has officially opened its doors in the village of Broadway in the Cotswolds. The project is the work of Arlene Davies and her husband, British retail entrepreneur George Davies (founder of Next, George at ASDA and Per Una at Marks & Spencer). Set within a restored limestone building on the High Street, the establishment combines hospitality, heritage and high-end dining in a region already renowned for its charm and tourism appeal.

The ten-bedroom hotel occupies a historic property that dates back to 1201 and previously served as a doctor’s surgery. The Davies, who have lived near Broadway for over three decades, undertook the restoration with a focus on preserving the building’s architectural integrity while introducing contemporary design elements. The interiors are led by Arlene, who holds a diploma from the National Design Academy, in collaboration with Laura Cole of The Cole Collective. Rooms feature bespoke British furnishings, including hand-printed fabrics from Rapture & Wright and joinery by Cotswood Fine Furniture.

At the centre of the new venture is Moda, a 30-seat fine dining restaurant helmed by head chef James Wilson. He previously headed up The Newt in Somerset, and brings experience from several Michelin-starred kitchens across the UK and Scandinavia, notably, in Helsinki at Gron (one star) and Palace (two stars), and at the two-starred Oaxen Krog in Stockholm. “I am excited and incredibly proud to be opening The House of George and Moda restaurant in the beautiful Cotswolds,” Wilson said. “I’m looking forward to bringing my cooking style to Broadway and to be working with the amazing local producers and makers we have here.”

Moda offers a nine-course seasonal tasting menu, which changes regularly to reflect the availability of ingredients. Dishes currently include Cornish Lobster, Potato, Dill & Lobster Butter Sauce, Duck, Boudin Noir, Spices & Squash and a Sea Buckthorn, Earl Grey & White Chocolate dessert. A fully plant-based tasting menu is also available, featuring foraged and seasonal produce. In addition to the tasting menu, Moda serves an à la carte and set lunch menu on Monday to Friday, with Sunday roasts highlighting meats from the nearby Martins Meats and vegetables from Worcester Produce.

The hotel also has a bar, private dining room and a snug, all designed to reflect the Davies’ emphasis on quality, comfort and connection to the local community. “From the very beginning, we wanted to create somewhere that feels connected to the soul of Broadway,” said Arlene. “Every texture, tone and flavour has been chosen to celebrate this beautiful part of the Cotswolds.”
