Sicilian-inspired female-led restaurant Vieni to open at The Goodsyard in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter
Vieni, a new independent Italian restaurant, is opening its doors at The Goodsyard in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter on 7th February. The venue, located on Pitsford Street, will be the first hospitality business to launch within the Goodsyard development.
The restaurant is the creation of chef-founder Angelina Adamo, who brings over a decade of experience from Michelin-starred establishments, hotels and various kitchens. Vieni is managed by Charlotte Carter, a hospitality professional recognised for her advocacy of women in the industry. Together, Adamo and Carter have been closely involved in shaping the restaurant’s concept and operations from its inception.
Vieni’s menu is heavily influenced by Adamo’s Sicilian heritage and her family’s culinary traditions. The chef describes the dishes as “a personal reflection of everything my Nonna ever taught me”, with the aim of offering diners a taste of Agrigento, Sicily. The selection includes traditional offerings such as arancini, cannoli and tiramisu – specifically, a version inspired by Adamo’s father, Giovanni, featuring Marsala-soaked sponge. Morning service will feature coffee brewed in moka pots, served with brioche and lemon granita, while later in the day, the kitchen will offer dishes such as whole sea bass and chargrilled beef ribs. The drinks menu will highlight Italian spritzes, liqueurs and affogatos.
The design of Vieni is intended to evoke the feeling of an Italian family home – in keeping with the food – with an open kitchen at its centre. The interior features Sicilian-inspired wallpaper, handmade plates by local ceramicist Moulded by Sarah Jane, a disco ball from Disco Heads, a Bertha charcoal oven and a Ferrari-red coffee machine.
Carter explained, “We’ve been sketching ideas on napkins from the very beginning, menus, colours, the kind of team and atmosphere we wanted to create. Vieni is about warmth, generosity and making people feel instantly at home. We’re so proud to be the flagship hospitality opening in The Goodsyard, it’s so exciting to finally open the doors.”
Adamo, who also founded the private dining and events company Tutto Apposto, said: “When I first viewed the site, sunlight flooded the space and I just knew. My very first thought was how perfectly a disco ball would catch the light! Vieni allows me to bring my Nonna’s cooking into a restaurant setting for the first time and seeing that vision realised in my first permanent space is incredibly special. I can’t wait to showcase that Sicilian food isn’t just pizza and pasta. It’s so much more!”
