Karl Urban joins the fight as Mortal Kombat II sets HBO Max streaming debut
Mortal Kombat II will begin streaming on HBO Max in the UK and Ireland from 24th July, bringing the latest chapter in the long-running video game adaptation to audiences following its theatrical release.
Directed by Simon McQuoid, the sequel finally throws Earthrealm’s champions into the Mortal Kombat tournament itself, where they must face the forces of Shao Kahn in a battle that will determine the fate of their world. Leading the newcomers is Karl Urban (The Boys, The Lord of the Rings trilogy) as fan-favourite fighter Johnny Cage, one of the franchise’s most iconic characters.
Urban joins returning cast members Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada, alongside Adeline Rudolph, Tati Gabrielle and Damon Herriman.
Written by Moon Knight creator Jeremy Slater and produced by James Wan, Todd Garner, E Bennett Walsh, Toby Emmerich and McQuoid, Mortal Kombat II continues the live-action series based on the hugely popular video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, blending the series’ signature martial arts action with its supernatural mythology.
