Plant-based chef Kirk Haworth will join Ben Murphy in the kitchen at 74 Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia on Tuesday 27th October for a one-night-only dinner. It is the second event in the restaurant’s Ben & Friends series, in which Murphy cooks alongside chefs who have influenced or worked with him during his career. Haworth is chef-patron of Plates, the Michelin-starred London restaurant, and won Great British Menu Champion of Champions in 2024.

The evening will serve up a six-course menu, with each chef contributing three dishes. Haworth’s produce-led plant-based cooking will alternate with Murphy’s own style. Because Murphy’s courses include fish, the menu as a whole is not plant-based.

The host chef will open the meal with Tuna with Calamansi and Granny Smith Apple. His guest follows with Chioggia Beetroot with Green Strawberry, Horseradish and Smoked Macadamia Sauce. Murphy’s second course is Brill with Brandade and Roasted Lemon, after which Haworth serves Caramelised Lion’s Mane Mushroom with Pickled Cherry, Cauliflower and Radicchio. There are two desserts. Murphy will serve Olive Oil, Vanilla and Blackberry and Haworth will end the meal with his own take on the flavours of banoffee pie.

Ben & Friends began in September with a dinner cooked by Murphy and Pierre Koffmann, the French chef whose London restaurant La Tante Claire held three Michelin stars. For each dinner, Murphy and his guest put together a menu that combines their individual approaches, creating contrasts in style. Pairing Murphy with Haworth, whose cooking is built around vegetables, fungi and other plant ingredients, is the clearest example of that so far.

Tickets for the October dinner cost £130 per person, which includes a glass of sparkling wine. The restaurant says more guest chefs and one-off menus will be announced in the coming months.
