When you combine geometrical prints with home wares and jewellery, it results in something interesting and spectacular. This is what you find when you take flight with Lovely Pigeon.

Lovely Pigeon is the alter ego of Kirsty Thomas, an illustrator, design-maker and occasional shop keeper. The label started in 2009 and has evolved ever since.  Lovely Pigeon is associated with Tate Modern, The Design Museum and The Barbican. The studio itself is based in an old net loft in Cellardyke, Scotland.

When you look at the range of items that Lovely Pigeon produces, they are clearly inspired by pigeons amongst other things. These Mr and Mrs Pigeon Mugs are ridiculously cute and you can buy one mug or have both at a reduced price of £15. You wouldn’t want to split up the happy couple, would you?

But it’s not just pigeons that inspire Kirsty. “I am inspired by an ever-ever changing list of things. I love mid-century design and illustration and I am constantly inspired by the shapes, colours and imagery of my seaside home.” When you look at these Pigeometry Ti Brooches, they look like sails from a boat and the colours are really bright and summery, very seasidey. However, what is important is what Kirsty is aiming to achieve with her work. “I like creating work which will make people smile and add a bit of cheer to people’s lives.” When you look at Lovely Pigeon’s pieces, you can’t help but smile. 

For this year, Lovely Pigeons’ collection includes a range of illustrated and hand-cut geometric jewellery: an old-school Cut-Make-Place circus kit, a collection of notebooks to keep everyone organised, and mugs and prints that celebrate Mr and Mrs Pigeon. The Cut-Make-Play circus kit is extremely cute and if you’re looking for a piece to decorate a child’s nursery, then it’s great.

Even though Lovely Pigeon’s range is very simplistic and not overly fussy, it is great for gifts. It’s almost returning to something quite old school – not in an 80s retro way, but more of a 50s vintage vibe.
