Minus the Bear at The Garage

Minus the Bear at The Garage | Live review

Currently promoting their fifth full-length album Infinity Overhead, last night Minus the Bear rocked The Garage with a gig that made it almost impossible not to have tingly feet.

With their discreet fanbase and a number of records behind them, the band put on an unpretentious show that focused simply on their music and suited the small venue’s underground atmosphere. Songs such as The Fix or Absinthe Party at the Honey Fly Warehouse were particularly welcomed by the audience, nearly turning the place into a disco, with many getting restless in their dancing shoes.

Apart from a few quieter tracks like Diamond Lightning, which the public enjoyed nonetheless, it must be said that most of the group’s repertoire relied on the catchy rhythms produced by their synthesisers. With their carefree lyrics also contributing to the gig’s joyful feel, Minus the Bear gave followers their daily dose of fun, helping them let loose and forget about daily preoccupations.

This was a key factor of the night, even the band members were happy and untroubled whilst striving to deliver a good performance. Minus the Bear were professionals, neither lost in a grandeur-fed frenzy nor detached from their audience, keeping it cool and appearing grateful for the opportunity to be doing what they love.

The gig reached its peak with the band’s closing track Throwin’ Shapes, which was received with enthusiasm and paved the way to an encore. Overall, it was a very enjoyable concert with no unnecessary frills.
