Taste of London 2013 at Regent’s Park

Taste of London 2013 at Regent’s Park

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Taste of London is a very slick affair that plays host to some of London’s top chefs and restaurants within the refined greenery of Regent’s Park. It has become a firm fixture on the alfresco social calendar, alongside Wimbledon and the Polo, with an atmosphere of excitement rolling around buoyed by feverish cooking, producers selling their wares and the gloss of celebrity brought by the likes of Theo Randall, Albert and Michel Roux Jr and Jeff Galvin.

The site’s big hitters are the BMW tent for demonstrations by great chefs such as Vivek Singh of the Cinnamon Club and the Electrolux Taste Theatre where you can get involved, stepping into the cooking bays for a tutored session, or watch demonstrations from industry heroes such as Theo Randall.

If you’re an avid foodie perhaps without the bank balance to indulge your hobby, this is a great chance to enjoy the best of the London restaurant scene starting with Szechuan Salt and Pepper Squid from Gordon Ramsay’s Maze, followed by a Summer Truffle Risotto from Gauthier, and finishing up with Stem Ginger Mousse with Blueberry Compote Apple, Pistachio & Honeycomb from L’Autre Pied. The latter incidentally won best in show for their dish of Ceviche of Hand Dived Scallops with Black Quinoa, Crème Fraiche, Radishes, Fennel and Dill, which you’ll agree truly is a mouthful.

It’s not all about the food: taste celebrates gastronomy in all its guises. Top distillery Sipsmith was ladelling out their Pimm’s rival Summer Cup to eagerly awaiting ladies whilst the men were found swarming the craft beer tents. There are too many exciting things on offer to squeeze them all in, however, Taste of London is as one spectator called it “the Woodstock of food” and well worth the visit.
