Alexa Dark at The Islington

Alexa Dark at The Islington | Live review

Alexa Dark is a young and fresh American singer-songwriter, currently living in London. She played a few songs at The Islington in Angel last night in front of a small audience. Dark presented her four songs plus two covers – from Arctic Monkeys and Drake’s superb Hold On, We’re Going Home. The venue is one of the best pubs in the area, the acoustic of the gig room particularly good.

We are still witnessing a “beta version” of a potentially good artist, but this girl has some good qualities – a pleasant if somewhat nasal voice, songwriting talent and definitely the physique du role. Dark’s song Blur is actually a good song – check it out on her ReverbNation page.

Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann and other folk singers are the primary references here, and hopefully this young girl will keep to her studies in order to improve her skills and technique, because to date she still needs a little bit more dedication. In any case: well done and keep on.
