Tom Booton to open first solo restaurant Ralphie’s in Pimlico with reworked British classics and a menu for dogs

Chef Tom Booton will open his first solo restaurant, Ralphie’s, in Belgravia this November. The neighbourhood restaurant, named after his Maltipoo dog, will serve reworked British classics.

The project follows Booton’s six years as executive chef at The Grill at The Dorchester. The 33-year-old became the youngest person to lead the restaurant when he took over in 2019, having previously worked in the kitchens of Alyn Williams at The Westbury and Ollie Dabbous.

Speaking about the opening, he said: “Ralphie’s has been a long time coming, so I’m genuinely so excited to finally share what I’ve been working on behind the scenes for the past few years – my debut restaurant. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I can’t wait to finally open the doors and welcome people in. The food is rooted in the things I love to cook and eat, with great produce at the heart of it. Most importantly, I want Ralphie’s to feel like a proper neighbourhood restaurant – a place that feels warm, welcoming and full of life, with really good food at the centre of it.”

The à la carte menu draws partly on Booton’s upbringing in Colchester. Starters are priced under £18 and include Crispy Cod Cheek Scampi with Warm Tartare Sauce and Beef Tartare with Potato Chips and Dried Beef Heart Shavings. Mains cost around £30 with options like a Pork and Mushroom Pie with Charcuterie Sauce and Booton’s version of Moules Marinière, alongside daily specials on a blackboard. Puddings are all under £12, among them a Vanilla Soft-Serve Sandwich with warm hazelnut and fudge sauce poured at the table.

Sunday lunch centres on roasts, priced from £27. There’s Rump of Hereford Beef with Horseradish and Watercress, a Yorkshire Pudding Filled with a Leg of Lamb Shepherd’s Pie that’s served with mint sauce and cauliflower cheese, and a Whole Stuffed Sutton Hoo Chicken with Bread Sauce, meant for two to three to share.

Ralphie’s will have a 40-cover dining room and a small outdoor terrace. Downstairs in the basement will be The Den, a private dining room overlooking the kitchen, furnished with a walnut table and a record player stocked with vinyl from Booton’s own collection. Menus there can include Beef Wellington carved at the table, followed by Banoffee Pie to share.

The wine list, developed by wine consultant and educator Emma Robinson, offers glasses from £7.50 and bottles from £32. Drinks expert Pritesh Mody has created the cocktail selection, which uses pickles and infusions foraged by the kitchen team. It includes a Beetroot Martini and Ralph’s Hedgerow Negroni, made with a fennel pickle liquor.

Booton designed the restaurant’s interiors himself using oxblood tones, Colefax and Fowler fabrics and dark walnut floors and tables, with brass fittings, lighting and mirrors from nearby design house Jamb. Furniture sourced from antique shops and auction houses sits alongside prints made for the space by London artist Ewan David Eason.

Dogs are not only welcome, but spoiled as all good girls and boys should be. They will have their own menu, with treats including a Pig in Blanket, a Crispy Fish Skin Roll and The Chew Board, served in dog bowls made by chinaware manufacturer William Edwards.

The restaurant will open for lunch from 12pm to 2.30pm and dinner from 5.30pm to 9.30pm, Monday to Saturday. On Sundays it will serve lunch from 12pm to 5.30pm.
