BAFTAs 2014: The red carpet
The glorious sunshine of this chilly February day set the tone for the shining stars that walked the red carpet at the Royal Opera House tonight for the EE BAFTAs. The biggest night in British film sees the greats of film land in London from all over the globe, and tonight was no exception.
Fearne Cotton, Dermot O’Leary and Edith Bowman hosted the proceedings on the carpet, interviewing the likes of brooding youngster Douglas Booth, the gorgeous Samantha Barks and the great Christoph Waltz. Cotton dazzled in a gold sequined vintage number, and O’Leary was ever the entertainer, fooling around with “Little Ant and Dec”.
British favourite to snatch the Leading Actor title Chitwetel Ejiofor was the carpet’s darling, spending most of his time wrapped up in interviews, looking dashing and clearly proud of this well-deserved recognition. Further down, chants of “LEO, LEO” could be heard all down the carpet for close to half an hour as the favourite of most, Leonardo DiCaprio, graciously shook hands and charmed the waiting press and public.
Uma Thurman and Tom Hanks strutted their stuff in midnight blue and classic black respectively, while EE Rising Star nominated Will Poulter was wonderfully polite and friendly to almost everyone else on the carpet, perhaps overwhelmed by the attention.
Amy Adams rocked designer Victoria Beckham tonight, flying the flag for British fashion opportunely at the same moment as London Fashion Week takes place down the road at Somerset House, while new British star Lupita Nyong’o dazzled in emerald green Dior.
What an exciting precursor to a fabulous night of achievement, controversy and glittering talent. Stay tuned for the announcement of all the winners of tonight’s EE BAFTAs.
