Dinosaur Pile-Up at Scala

Formed in 2007, Yorkshire boys Dinosaur Pile-Up have been supporting the likes of Feeder, Cage The Elephant and most recently You Me At Six – but tonight, fans have gathered at The Scala for the King Kong inspired trio’s biggest headline show to date with the support of Fight Like Apes and China Rats. And with a name like that, we just had to go along. 

The three burst on to the stage, opening the set with Arizona Waiting from their latest album Nature Nurture to which fans screamed along with singer Matt Bigland “SCREEEAM! SCREAM AT MY REFLECTION”. The grungy Peninsula drove the crowd wild who danced, jumped and fist-pumped along as though their lives depended on it. Inflatable dinosaurs and giant footballs were propelled across the room, which was quite a sight and after some deliberation, Bigland made the decision to dive off the sound booth into the flock of fans enthusiastically chanting “JUMP! JUMP!”

The band’s musical influences are apparent throughout the set – at some points we hear Nirvana in them, at other points The Beach Boys, and they merge together beautifully to create the unique sound of Dinosaur Pile-Up. Further crowd pleasers included latest single Derail and the old classic Mona Lisa and, after the set, the boys returned for an encore finishing with Nature Nurture. Tonight’s show has proved just how sensational this band are live and, should you get the chance to go along, don’t forget your inflatable dinosaur.
