Royal Baby on the way with William and Kate expecting their second
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have announced they are expecting their second child.
Kensington Palace made the declaration on Monday, with the duchess reportedly being less than 12 weeks into her pregnancy and announced that the Queen and families of both parents are delighted with the news.
Numerous public figures have already offered their congratulations, including the prime minister David Cameron and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
It is the second time that William and Kate have been forced to announce a pregnancy early, after what is described as “acute morning sickness” prevented Kate from joining Prince William at the opening of a £21m China Study Centre at Oxford University on Monday.
Kate was admitted to a private hospital during her first pregnancy in December 2012 after displaying symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum – extreme morning sickness – which requires supplementary hydration and only affects 3.5 in every 1,000 pregnancies. However now the symptoms are reported to be less severe and the 32-year-old is being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace.
The second baby is set to become fourth-in-line to the throne, after first-born Prince George who celebrated his first birthday on 22nd July. Despite lacking the constitutional significance of the birth of Prince George, the baby’s arrival could act as an “unintended but useful role for the Windsors”.
BBC news royal correspondent Peter Hunt reported: “Headlines about the Queen’s view of Scottish independence will be replaced by extensive coverage of a royal birth next year.”
The Palace claims that the duchess’ attendance at events in the near future will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
Kate is scheduled to join her husband at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in London on Wednesday evening.
She is expected to embark on her first official solo tour to Malta for two day from 20th September.
