Hanna Melin illustrations

There is something about illustrations that I love, but I always struggle to put my finger on it. Hanna Melin is an illustrator and such feelings towards drawing are completely blown away, being replaced with sheer admiration.

Originally from Sweden, Hanna moved to England and graduated from London’s Royal College of Art in 2000 with a Masters in Visual Communication. Now living in East London, Hanna has made a name for herself as a drawing dream.

Word of her work has spread fast and she has been able to create quirky masterpieces for clients such as The New York Times, The Independent, Boden, PC World America, Crown Paint, Time Out and Halifax. Melin’s animation work has also been featured in the music video for ‘Writer’s Block’, by Just Jack. One of her more recent and famous features for The Guardian Weekend magazine came about last October. Hanna used the idea of an embroidered feminine body part with a sewing needle and thread to promote the story of ‘Designer Vaginas’.

The only way to describe Hanna’s work is simply inimitable. There is a distinctive realism about her talent but there is, too, an animated warmth of fun, making her illustrations really something special.

Hanna also makes her drawings into adorable accessories and homewear. From the ‘Clown Boot’ necklace (£17.00) and the ‘Ice Cream Woman’ brooch (£4.00), to the floral Oyster card holder (£3.95) and the ‘Banana man’ necklace (£12.00), Hanna’s work is truly a delight and instantly brings a smile to your face. Her wall art ranges from £10 to £20.

Hanna is currently on maternity leave but I’m sure having a new little sparkle in her life will bring even more exciting drawings for us to enjoy. I cannot wait to see what her illustrations will feature next. Choose your favourite by clicking here.
