Victoria at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen
With vocals distinctly similar to The Rocket Summer, matched with infectious, piano-powered hooks reminiscent of Something Corporate, one thing was for certain: Victoria was bound to get the people of Hoxton dancing.
The set kicked off with an ambient intro that built up great anticipation before the band kicked off with their first high-energy tune, Elements. From here, Victoria didn’t let the energy drop, with the exception of a few slower-paced ballads.
Having just recently released their single, Into the Wild, the London-based quintet made sure to debut some new songs alongside said single. All of Victoria’s new material was well received by the audience, hand-clapping along with the beat, dancing non-stop, and learning the chorus lines so they could sing along.
A big part of Victoria’s crowd success, apart from writing catchy songs, is their positive spirit. On stage, every member was having the time of their life, dancing about with smiles from ear to ear; this created an atmosphere that the audience just couldn’t refuse.
Summertime and Sticks and Stones were particularly popular among the crowd of 20-somethings, while other songs like Saving Grace seemed to slow the mood down a bit too much and verged on being boring, in comparison to the rest of the set. Overall, however, it was a complete performance and the band did well to tell a story from start to finish, beginning with an exhilarating piece of cinematic synth and ending with their widely-acclaimed single Into the Wild.
Don’t be surprised if you start seeing these five turn up more often on your radio.
