The new trend: Halal nail polish

The new trend: Halal nail polish

The word halal seems to be popping up everywhere. So what exactly does it mean? In Muslim culture, “halal” is a term referring to what is lawful or permitted under Islamic law. Halal is commonly used in relation to meat, food, personal care products, cosmetics and, recently, nail polish. Cosmetic products that are deemed halal cannot include any animal-derived ingredients, making them vegan by nature. A product also cannot be considered halal if it has been tested on animals, therefore, making halal cosmetics completely cruelty-free.

If you are not Muslim, you’d probably be thinking, “Are halal products for me?” There is a common misconception that someone must be of the Muslim faith to use these products. Halal beauty products are a healthy alternative, thus appealing to many vegans, vegetarians or health-conscious shoppers. According to Habib Ghanim, director of ISWA Halal Certification Department, “your skin is the biggest organ in your body. It absorbs everything, so you’re consuming [products] indirectly”. Wouldn’t you want to use the best products for your body?

Halal vs vegan

Many people are curious to know: is there a difference between Halal and Vegan when it comes to cosmetic products? Yes, there is a difference. If a cosmetic product is halal, that means it must also be considered vegan because it does not contain any animal-derived ingredients. If a beauty product is vegan, that does not necessarily mean that it is halal. Halal cosmetics need to be certified as such and cannot contain prohibited alcohol (according to the Islamic law). Make sure to read a product’s ingredients and look for the halal logo on the packaging to ensure it is certified halal.

The benefits of halal nail polish

Halal and vegan nail polishes have many health benefits. Once you know about the harmful chemicals in typical nail polish, you’ll never go back. Many top nail brands use harsh ingredients that are known to cause cancer or contribute to other negative health concerns. 786 Cosmetics is an up-and-coming brand that offers an innovative nail polish formula with unmatched pigmentation and wearability that are completely halal, vegan and cruelty-free. Now you don’t have to sacrifice quality for a healthier alternative.

And don’t worry, 786 Cosmetics has certifications proving their nail products are halal, vegan, cruelty-free and water-permeable. The water-permeability aspect of these polishes allows for oxygen and water to penetrate the nail polish. This allows your nails to breathe and not be trapped under a thick layer of polish. Say goodbye to thin, brittle nails: 786 Cosmetics polishes are also free of the 11 harshest chemicals found in standard nail polish, such as formaldehyde, toulene and DBP.

Don’t be fooled by the well-known cosmetics companies. Be a conscious shopper and know what is in your products.
