Part of the Sundance Film Festival, 4 Feet High is both a wonderful coming-of-age piece and a fine chronicle of an activist’s journey. It tells the story of Juana (Marisol Agostina Irigoyen, a wheelchair-using performer making an excellent debut), who moves to a new school where sex education is deficient. Joining fellow students in a demonstration, Juana argues for a more well-rounded curriculum as she undergoes the process of exploring and experimenting with her own sexuality. There’s partying, drugs, sex – everything you’d expect from a high school series – as well as an exploration of generational gaps and ideology differences.

We spoke to Marisol Agostina Irigoyen, director María Belén Poncio and co-director Rosario Perazolo Masjoan about the inspiration for the film, disability, identity and sexuality.
