The London bar Lyaness will host a one-day takeover with the East London coffee community Batch Baby on Sunday 26th July, as part of its regular Sunday Lyan programme. The event, which runs from 1 to 10pm, will centre on the crossover between coffee-making and cocktail-making, pairing Batch Baby’s coffee expertise with Lyaness’s approach to drinks.

The Sunday Lyan series dates back to the bar’s earlier incarnation as Dandelyan, when it was introduced as a way of drawing customers on Sunday afternoons and evenings and providing a platform for collaborations between the bar and outside guests. The Batch Baby takeover continues in the same vein, with the two teams sharing skills and techniques over the course of the day.

The menu will feature cocktails inspired by coffee-making techniques, alongside coffee-based drinks made using cocktail methods. Among the drinks listed are a Frozen Banana Iced Coffee Slushie made with Batch Baby’s Brazilian volcanic fermentation cold brew, and a horchata serve that will be available in both non-alcoholic and alcoholic versions. The line-up also includes a number of drinks made with ingredients such as cascara (the dried skin of the coffee cherry), tepache (a fermented drink traditionally made from pineapple) and unroasted green coffee beans, highlighting the different stages and by-products of coffee production and how they can be applied in a bar setting.

Batch Baby is a coffee community based in East London with quite a following among coffee enthusiasts. Its collaboration with Lyaness makes for an exciting blend of its community-focused model with the bar’s experimental cocktail creations. The exchange of methods between the two teams during the takeover means coffee techniques will be applied to cocktails and mixology techniques applied to coffee.

Lyaness, located on London’s South Bank, has built a reputation for its innovative libations and its collaborative events. The Sunday Lyan sessions have become a recurring fixture in the bar’s calendar, offering a rotating series of guest partnerships throughout the year. Next week’s Batch Baby collaboration forms part of this ongoing series.
