Warner Bros announces Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga UK release date for May 2024

In a move set to thrill fans of the post-apocalyptic genre, Warner Bros Pictures has announced the release date for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, slated to hit UK cinemas on 24th May 2024. Directed by the Academy Award-winning George Miller, the film promises to be a compelling addition to the iconic Mad Max universe, offering a glimpse into the origins of Furiosa, a character that captured audiences’ imaginations in Mad Max: Fury Road. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Alyla Browne and Tom Burke, this standalone action-adventure is expected to breathe new life into the dystopian world that Miller first introduced over three decades ago.

Furiosa delves into the backstory of its titular character, portrayed by Taylor-Joy, tracing her journey from being snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers to her struggles and survival amidst the chaos of a war-torn landscape. The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of a power struggle between the Warlord Dementus and The Immortan Joe, as Furiosa embarks on a perilous quest to return to her homeland. With a screenplay co-written by Miller and Mad Max: Fury Road co-writer Nico Lathouris, the film is produced by Miller and Doug Mitchell under their Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures.

The return to the Mad Max saga is supported by an accomplished creative team that includes several Oscar winners from Mad Max: Fury Road, such as director of photography Simon Duggan, composer Tom Holkenborg and sound designer Robert Mackenzie, among others. Their collective efforts are poised to deliver an immersive cinematic experience that combines groundbreaking visuals with gripping storytelling.

Scheduled for worldwide distribution by Warner Bros Pictures, beginning internationally on 22nd May 2024 and in the UK on 24th May, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set to be an exclusive theatrical release. Fans and newcomers to the series alike are eagerly anticipating this next chapter in George Miller’s dystopian vision, promising high-octane action and a deeper exploration into the lore of the Mad Max universe.
