Hong Kong box office hit Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In set for UK and Irish release

Trinity CineAsia has announced the UK and Irish cinema release of the action-packed crime epic, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, scheduled for 24th May 2024, following its Midnight Screening at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is directed by the acclaimed Soi Cheang, known for his work on Mad Fate.

Set against the backdrop of British colonial Hong Kong in the 1980s, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In tells the gripping tale of a troubled youth who inadvertently finds himself in the notorious Kowloon Walled City. This enclave, known for its high crime rates and corruption, becomes the stage for a story of discovery, order amidst chaos, and invaluable life lessons learned from the city’s inhabitants as they face a villainous threat.

The film is notable not only for its compelling narrative but also for its production value, boasting a budget of $40 million USD, making it one of the most expensive Hong Kong films ever produced. The ensemble cast features a mix of veteran actors and rising stars, including Raymond Lam, Terrance Lau, Tony Wu and German Cheung, alongside screen legends Louis Koo, Philip Ng, Aaron Kwok and Sammo Hung. The action sequences, designed by stunt coordinator Kenji Tanigaki, promise to deliver high-octane entertainment, complemented by an atmospheric score from legendary composer Kenji Kawai.

Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In has already garnered critical acclaim in Hong Kong, described by critics as “an exhilarating display of bone-crunching violence”, with Cheang receiving the Best Director award and Hung honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Hong Kong Film Awards.
