“Even when the appetite for superheroes might lull in the zeitgeist, we still have other things on our show that keep us driving”: Jack Griffo and Kira Kosarin on The Thundermans – Undercover

“Even when the appetite for superheroes might lull in the zeitgeist, we still have other things on our show that keep us driving”: Jack Griffo and Kira Kosarin on The Thundermans – Undercover

Popular kids’ show The Thundermans follows up the superhero family’s story with the new spin-off series, The Thundermans: Undercover. With parallels to the early beginnings of the original show, twin siblings Max and Phoebe are sent to Secret Shores, where they are tasked to eliminate a threat on top of keeping their superhero status a secret. They bring along their younger sister, Chloe, who is struggling to make friends back home, to give her a taste of normalcy. As the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility, and Max and Phoebe will find that beyond fighting evil and saving the world, they must also navigate raising Chloe and doing the right thing for her.

The series stars Jack Griffo and Kira Kosarin, who have been with these characters for over a decade. They have also taken on the mantle of executive producers for this spin-off, which provides them with creative input on their characters and other aspects of the show. Griffo is known for his voice work as Damian Wayne in the animated film Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, as well as starring in the Netflix series Alexa and Katie. Meanwhile, Kosarin is a musician with several EPs under her belt and has amassed over 31M followers on TikTok. The Upcoming caught up with the talented young stars to talk about working with these same characters for over a decade, the new dynamic as Chloe’s guardians in this spin-off series, stagnation in the superhero genre, and creating safe spaces for children’s entertainment.
