“We have to connect to our essence”: Master Oh and José Antonio Gonzalez-Cuevas on About Light and Shadows

In an age where science and spirituality often seem at odds, Korean spiritual guide Master Oh brings a fresh perspective with About Light and Shadows. Directed by José Antonio Gonzalez-Cuevas, the documentary brings together insights from leading minds in astrophysics, quantum physics, neurology and psychology with the teachings of Korean spiritual guide Master Oh. At its core is a striking idea: that healing begins not in medicine alone, but in the human energy known as Qi. With serene pacing and a contemplative tone, the film asks its audience to look beyond the material and consider the subtle forces shaping our inner and outer worlds.

Ahead of the film’s UK premiere, Master Oh and Gonzalez-Cuevas spoke with The Upcoming to unpack the vision behind About Light and Shadows. In a wide-ranging conversation, they spoke about the harmony between science and spirituality, which extends to tradition and modernity. As the world accelerates into an increasingly frantic pace, they propose that this is precisely the moment to pause, reflect and reconnect with the deeper energies that guide our lives alongside the documentary.
