Soho’s Nessa launches weekly Salon of the Unruly art nights celebrating local talent

Soho’s cocktail bar Nessa will begin hosting a weekly series showcasing emerging contemporary local artists starting from the 24th of April. The event, titled Salon Of The Unruly, aims to celebrate Soho’s historic role as a hub for London’s creative community and will take place every Thursday from 8 pm until late. The initiative is inspired by the Thursday night gatherings of the Bloomsbury Group, specifically those hosted by artist Vanessa Bell, after whom Nessa is named.

The series is curated in partnership with Fitzrovia’s Grove Gallery and art consultancy Hope 93. Each week, a different up-and-coming artist will be featured, offering visitors the chance to engage in informal Q&A sessions and conversations with the artists. The first event will spotlight Grace McNerney, known for paintings and photography that explore everyday moments with humour and spectacle.

Future line-ups include Zara Muse, whose practice focuses on nature, emotion, and human connection, and Adee Phelan, a former hairdresser renowned for his work with high-profile clients, who has since turned to art. Additional dates and artists for May and June are to be announced, with the schedule running through at least mid-June.

In addition to the art programming, the evenings will feature live music from British DJs, with selections tailored to each guest’s style and background. The bar will serve a selection of signature cocktails, including the Abstract 19, a drinkable homage to Vanessa Bell’s Abstract Painting, served in porcelain cups crafted by Nessa’s hostess, Jasmine. The drinks list includes also the Boho Negroni, made with East London Gin, nectarine, Mancino Ambrato, Luxardo Bianco, and saffron.

Late-night dining will be available, with dishes from Executive Chef Tom Cenci’s menu, counting on options such as Cheese and Onion Croquettes with grape mustard mayo, Aged Beef Tartare on Charred Sourdough, and Homemade BBQ Crisps
