Brontë Aurell’s new cookbook brings Scandinavian seasons and traditions to UK kitchens

Brontë Aurell, the Danish-born founder of London’s Scandinavian café and grocery shop ScandiKitchen, will release a new cookbook titled The Scandinavian Year this October, coinciding with the Swedish celebration of Cinnamon Bun Day. The release explores the culinary traditions and seasonal rituals of the region, offering a collection of recipes that span the year, from winter comfort dishes to summer feasts. It will be available through major retailers including Amazon, Bookshop.org and Waterstones.

The Scandinavian Year is Aurell’s latest contribution to promoting Nordic food culture in the UK. With her previous cookbooks and work at ScandiKitchen, Aurell has helped make the unique cuisine accessible to a British audience, and this new publication continues that mission, with a focus on seasonality and traditional customs.

The cookbook is structured to follow the Scandinavian calendar, providing insight into how food and rituals shift with the seasons. It includes recipes for hearty winter soups, springtime bakes, dishes for midsummer gatherings and lighter fare for the warmer months. Its release comes at a time when comfort food from the region is gaining popularity elsewhere, particularly as the colder weather sets in. Aurell’s work often blends personal anecdotes with culinary insight, and The Scandinavian Year is expected to follow suit.
